Learn More About Beautiful Xel-Ha

Xel-Ha is a spectacular eco-park located north of Tulum, about 15 minutes from our villa in Akumal. It lies on the eastern coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula, the location of the Mayans in ancient times.

Xel-Ha's many leisure, ecological and natural wonders offer activities for the whole family. The dazzling open-sea aquarium allows tourists to see sea life in its natural habitat unaltered and undisturbed.

Swimming with trained dolphins is also a popular thing to do for visitors and it is usually not available in many areas. Animal and nature lovers enjoy spending time in the water with these gentle mammals, and they will have a great story to bring home to their family and friends!

Snorkeling is also perfect in the local lagoon. The coral is not live there, but regular feeding keeps the many types of beautiful fish coming back for more. Some visitors will have another person feed the fish so they can see the swimming visitors from below.

There is a river which starts in a natural spring, and inner tubes are available to float to the end. This provides a perfect complement to a short nap in a hammock on one of the beautiful beaches.

The more daring tourists can climb up and dive from the local cliffs in Xel-Ha, touring the Mayan cave, and touring the local Xel-Ha ruins. These ruins are mostly unrestored and totally original, which gives a unique look into past centuries and architectural contributions of the Mayans.

Hammock Island, Xpa, Bay of Caprices and The Beach are popular hotspots for those who want to lounge and experience the leisurely activities at Xel-Ha. Chacah Garden, the Mayan Wall, the Apiary and Plant Nursery provide unique natural attractions for plant life lovers. Natural wonders are also seen at the Inlet, El Dorado Cavern, Ixchel’s Gulf, the Mayan Cave, Chaac Mangal, and many cenotes.

When visiting Akumal, Xel-Ha is an easy day trip that the whole family will enjoy and offer a choice of activities for all. Tickets are reasonably priced.  Xel-Ha is unique to the area with activities centering around relaxation, fun and exploring historical and natural wonders.

People who like water will enjoy the inner tube ride, cliff diving and snorkeling in the lagoon.  Nature lovers will enjoy swimming with the dolphins and exploring the multiple forms of plant and animal life there, and those who want to know more about the historical roots of the Yucatan Peninsula have plenty of opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins and see the architectural influences of that age.

Our children and grandchildren usually plan on spending the whole day at Xel-Ha when they visit Akumal. There are so many activities they never get tired of going back. They enjoy riding a bicycle through a path in the jungle, jumping off the cliffs into the lagoon, swimming with the dolphins, and walking through stingrays on the bottom of the ocean.

This is th first year they signed up for the Sea Trek. They wore a technologically advanced helmet that looks like deep-sea diving equipment. Sea Trek required no previous training , diving or otherwise. Experts will be nearby at all times during the walk, aiding them in every way and satisfying every curiosity concerning the aquatic walk of your life. They all said it was a walk they would remember forever!

We highly recommend you visit Xel-Ha on your next visit to the Yucatan.

6 Easy Ways to Save on Your Vacation

The majority of people frequently find that the act of going to a fun and exciting location on vacation is a much anticipated event.  Whether the trip is for business travel, a Christmas holiday or for that matter any special time of the year you need only to determine that it would be a fine time to go on a vacation and simply pack up.  The problem which surfaces in these situations is that can be an costly proposition.  Not everybody can afford to purchase a plane ticket or can they afford to book a luxury hotel or in many cases they just do not have the required funds to spend when they get to their chosen location for their planned trip.  Well it so happens that if you know where to look for it traveling need not be expensive. If this idea interests you then by all means read on.

1. Use the 'net!  People with access to the Internet will find it very easy to look for affordable travel offerings ranging from airlines, hotels, villas for rent, cruises or even car rentals.  Almost all travel related businesses every where now have a web site so that you can visit and obtain needed information before actually finishing your vacation plans.  You can always contact the sellers directly and obtain additional information.

2. Be flexible about the day and time of your trip. During the slow days of the week you can easily find many special offers or discount prices for both airline tickets and places to stay.  Airlines may offer six or eight flights to your destination on any day.  If you have to depart in the morning, check out the three or four departures that leave in the morning.  Since airlines charge for tickets according to the availability of seats on the plane, moving your time by just one hour or so may save you a great sum of cash.

3. Another way to save is by traveling with a group such as a tour group, travel group or travel club.  Group travel is usually arranged ahead of time by travel agencies.  They purchase in volume, frequently chartering a whole airplane and reserving a large number of rooms to get the very lowest price.

4. Book early!  Make your trip plans well in advance.   Book your cruise a year in advance for the vest discounts, and take advantage of low rail fares just after the holidays.  If you make your arrangements several months before you travel you usually can get your choice of flights and rooms at the best prices.

5. Travel during the off-season.  For example, go to the Caribbean and Mexico in the summer because in the winter rates for villas and plane fares rise.  Caribbean cruises are cheaper when you go in the fall versus winter or spring.  Hawaii is less costly from mid-September to mid-December.  Europe's best deals are available between Thanksgiving and Easter when the locals are not on vacation.

6. In a foreign country convert money at a local bank for the best conversion.  ATMs affiliated with major credit card companies are great, but watch out for foreign ATMs.  While they normally won't charge you a fee, your bank may charge you one!  Learn your bank's policies before you go on your trip.

These are but a few of the countless ways you can make your vacation less expensive.  All you need to do is be clever and try to coordinate your timing properly and you can realize that dream vacation that you have waited so long without breaking your family budget.
